1st time at the house

This week was the first time my group met at the house. We had a very good conversation and yummy cookies. If we would have all read the material better it would have been easier to talk about. The first article we talked about was the poem "When I Was Growing Up". This was about a Chinese girl that longs to be white. She had a sister that was fair skinned and she was praised for her beauty. The little girl could speak English and spell correctly to fit in but found it hard to fit in. When she was growing up a white man took her out and then she wanted to be Chinese because they are known to be small and smart and that's what this guy liked about her. She then realized that's what she wanted to be and nothing else. I really liked this poem because people that are not white feel like they are so out of the box and try to do things to stand out when really if you think about whites are really the ones out of the box.
Another article we read was the one about hazing. I saw the videos about the girls on the powder puff football team and the upper class girls beat the under class girls on the team. Several girls had to go to the hospital and one had memory loss. I think this is absolutely crazy that they beat the other girls. Girls have always had the status of pretty little girls in a dress. I feel that now girls just want to be noticed. The go against what they are known for. Girls are mean and that article is a good example.
In class we talked about how you grow up is how you usually are when you get older. An example for that was if your parents fight all the time then you think that's how a relationship is supposed to be when you get older. I agree with that. We also watched a movie in class about how things have changed. The Ken barbie had small muscles and as the year went on the muscles got bigger. This is true and the media shows the what they think guys and girls should look like. I don't know why it would matter. Everyone is special in their own way.
Overall last week we had some good conversations and I look forward to this week.

(I wrote on my blog today instead of yesterday because I didn't have to meet at the house this week)

1st Week

So, Last week was long. I was extremely sick with the flu but still manage to read the article Women's Voices, Feminist Visions. I actually enjoyed this article. They talked about how women and men were pretty much equal. I highlighted a few things I thought were interesting. One in which, "Women and men are paid equal wages for work of comparable values." I have a hard time excepting the fact that men get paid more then women or that it's easier for a male to find a job then women. Another is "men are just as likely to ask for help as to give it." I hate it when we are on a family vacation and lost but my dad wouldn't even think about asking someone for help. One other thing was "parks at night can feel just as safe as they do during the day" I really liked this because I am the type to be scared walking alone at night and if it was like this more people would walk at night. Overall the article was good and had lots of interesting things.
I only made it to one class this week but I thought I was interesting that we are having small groups and meeting at different times to talk about our readings. I also found that it was nice we could have groups for our projects. I am looking forward to seeing everyone in class tomorrow. Bye!

A little about me!!!

Hello, My name is Carlee Fehribach. I'm 19 and from Evansville, IN. I have 4 older sisters Rachelle, Jamie, Shae, and Ashley. I'm an aunt to 2 beautiful baby girls, Ellie and Mallory. I've played soccer since I was 6 years old and also enjoy playing other sports for fun. I love to go boating with my family, grill out, and have camp fires. I love cheese, loud music, my roommate, the St. Louis Cardinals, kids, One Tree Hill, and shopping. I hate storms, sticks, mice, and being alone. My mom is my best friend and I tell her everything. I came to Western because 2 of my sisters went here and loved it. I also loved the campus. In this class I expect to learn about women and their rights while still having fun and getting a good grade. Here are a few things i expect from this university: I expect a good education that will land me a great job in the future; I expect to learn responsibility; and I'd love to meet life long friends. In life I expect to learn new things and accomplish many goals.
